I just successfully flashed my BIOS settings & my computer works great except that I get a DOS message on Startup-Conflict I/O Ports 2F8. I hit the F1 key & I boot into Windows98 w/o any problems. My sound works & everything in Device Manager checks out ok. How do I resolve the 2F8 conflict?

Sounds like you have an internal modem that is using Com2. I would suggest entering the bios and disabling Com port 2.

Only problem is that COM2 is assigned to my modem. I tried using Device Manager to assign modem to COM1 but that didn't work. I don't think I have anything on COM1.

Is your modem an external or internal? If it's an internal the problem is that the internal modem (Com port 2) and the Com port 2 (located on the system board) are conflicting. By turning off the Com port 2 on the system board this will free up that resource for the internal modem that's wanting to use 2f8. Most likely com port 2 was already disabled in the bios. When you flashed/upgraded the bios this reset everything to factory defaults. Which would set com port 2 with in the bios to enabled.

Thanks for the help. I decided to upgrade. I installed an Actiontec Call Waiting PCI modem & it works great. No conflicts!
