Until recently, I thought my OS was working fine. "Quick Time" is now part of my "start up" processes, which I did not set up. When I tried to access the config.sys application (using START / RUN / CONFIGSYS), an error message was produced saying, "could not find configsys or one of it's components..."

HOWEVER, I seem to have a config.sys file in my C:\ directory???

Is this where it is supposed to be? I thought maybe there was something wrong with the "RUN" command, but it works fine for files like REGEDIT ??

Can anyone help me??

Config.sys is on the root C. It always says that it can't find it if you type it in the Run box. Everything is therefore quite normal.

By the way, the only thing you need config.sys for is DOS based programs. Windows will run fine without it, although unless it is giving you hassle there is no need to delete it.

Quick Time adds qttask in startup (see msconfig). You can untick it but it will probably come back.
In which case you can prevent it doing so by renaming qttask.exe to qttask.ex- or whatever.
You then make a text file (I usually put the word "dummy" in the text), rename it to qttask.exe and put it the original qttask.exe location.

Yeah, I've noticed in the last week that "He's baaaaack...." ;>)

Derek, I will be sending you an Email shortly, however my ISP has changed. (I've relocated from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Canada, thus I've changed ISP's.)

I'll PM you with my new Email address so you'll know it's me.

It's a good day when you learn something

Oooh dear, those folk who say they are leaving then come back always annoy me LOL. Thx for the kind words anyhow.

Well, I still browse computing.net to keep up to date. I've gone very low key these days (semi-retired) but can't resist the odd tempting post, especially on W9x because there is inevitably less support around.
