Config timer

Can a program within windows 98 be set up as a timer in the config file or in fact in any other file? The reason I ask this is because there seems to be an re-occurring problem always at the same time that we start have problems. Is there something I should be looking at to determine if this is really happening? Some of our older machines at work seem to play up at a particular time of day.
Could you be a little more specific? What exactly is happening?

Difficult to put this into words but at around a certain time of day, that is about 12.20pm just after midday my work PC seem to freeze and lock up for no reason. The key board does not respond. The only way I can get this to work at all is to do a cold reboot from the main power switch. This is now happening a little bit more frequently. But not all days , however said that the last few day this is a little more consistent than usual. What sort of machine is this?? It is a production machine that runs windows 98 software on a Pentium 2 computer. My point is here could some person be tinkering around to make this happen?

Could you have the anti-virus program set to scan every day? Norton antivirus scanning can take up to 100% of processor usage. Also, look in scheduled tasks.
