I had this problem just yesterday. I did these things - 1. switched monitors - still black 2. took out CD's in drive 3. shut off 'puter, unplugged my modem and re-started - monitor came on. plugged my modem back in - still ok so far.

i haven't tried unplugging the cd rom but as far as other cards, i only have the video card in. that is the only pci or isa card in the computer, well actually the card is agp. i'll try the cdrom next.

Just a thought ... you might want to try swapping out the power supply. I had a computer do this to me a couple of months ago.

Check device manager for 2 monitors. I once put in a new graphics card and installed the drivers everything was Ok. Then I installed the tools that came with the card and the screen went black. When I went into safe mode I had 2 monitors I removed 1 it still came back after a reboot. UnIstalled the tools and removed 1 monitor out of device manager then everything was ok again.

If the mobo has an integrated video adapter you may have to disable it in the bios to get your card to work.
