My computer won't do anything. everytime i try to install win 98/95/NT or do anything with the computer it gives me a message invalid COMMAND.COM i have earesed the hard drive by using another computer but it still won't. i have tried putting in other hard drives but they have still got the same error message as the first. non of the boot disks have worked. If anybody can tell me how to fix it or what is wrong with my computer would be appreciated.

all you have to do is make a windows boot disk then install that, after that start up(without the startup disk) witht the Windows cd inside the computer and it should goto the install thing, if not just press ESC (maybe something else on your comp) and select Cd-rom, then just select install from disk

when you say none of the boot disks worked, what exactly happens when you turn on your computer with a 98 boot disk? are you using a windows 98 boot disk? Does the computer POST (do you see the BIOS information and the amount of RAM, etc? need more info....

The first thing to do is to start up from a boot disk. At the DOS prompt type the following
C:\cd windows
wininitYou should then see the following message:‘Please wait while set up updates your configuration files. This may take a few minutes ...Completed updating files, continuing to load windows’Remove the disk from your floppy drive, press ctrl-alt-del to do a restart.

Let'me first explain your problem: when you try to boot your system you get the message
"invalid command.com" either because this file is defective or missing. If you just formatted you HD and tried to boot with it, it certainly wouldn't boot to let you install (and to do anything at all). There are many ways to fix it.
The 1st solution is in #2. You could make a boot disk, so you'll be able to boot (using this disk) and then you'll be able to install your win95.
You can try another, doing the following:
Take you HD, place it in a computer that has windows, and format it with the following command line (in DOS):
format /q /sThis should transfer DOS to your hard drive and you'll be able to use it directly, without having a boot disk (I prefer this... it's much faster).
If you're still unable to install (like, "where's my cd-rom drive now?"), post a new message..

I have already tried most of what you are saying and nothing really works i can't use the boot disks they don't do anything and i don't have a version of dos to use if anybody knows where i can find a version of dos would be great. thank you for all of your help but if it is not fixed within a couple of weeks i am going to throw it in the canal.
