Comment:
I have Pentium 3, 3?? MHz computer. I was using IE yesterday and my computer just shut down. I was downloading from CNET and reading news at CNN when it shut down. I tried to reboot. The power supply fan and the CPU fan came on but it shut off immediately. No beeps or anything. I tried using the start disk but it wont even get to recognizing the floppy. I dropped a new hard drive in it and tried to boot from the 98 CD but nothing. I tried a new HDD because I thought the old one died or something but I get the same response. No boot. I've reseated all the PCI and AGP card(s), checked my connections. There are no bad smells like something is fried so I am at a loss for what might be wrong. Any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Michael,

I did reseat the RAM but no go. I will have to go buy a power supply to swap if I'm going to try it. The one in there is the second one. The first one went out with a bang and some smoke three years ago. Would the power supply come on and go off if that was the prob? Thanks for your help.

It sounds like a problem with the motherboard, cpu, psu or a dead bios. Try disconnecting all the drives and removing all the cards except video. I don't think that will change anything but it's the first thing to try.
