I removed my old harddrive and put a new one in. When I restarted all I get is a beeping sound. I did remove my RAM sticks but, I put the same ones back in. I turned the HD cable the other way on the HD but that then it would not even make a noise. When it is beeping it is making a noise. So can any one tell me what the problemns is? Ken

Is the HD recognised in the BIOS? If not you probably have the jumper on the HD set wrong. Do you see any post screens when you start your computer? Is your computer a brand name box? If you enter the BIOS you will probably find options to disable fast boot, and silent boot, Change those, and you will see and hear what happens on POST.

The red-striped edge of the ribbon cable needs to be connected to the #1 pin side of the HD and motherboard connectors.
If you're ever not sure about a connection it's best to disconnect it completely rather than turn it around.
The problem is probably not the HD. I assume you get nothing on the screen in which case it could be anything. Most likely you jostled something loose while inside the computer or worse, you zapped something.
Try reseating the memory and cpu. Spray some compressed air in their slots to remove any lingering dust. Make sure the cards are in securely.
