I have a 533 celeron pc from HP with 64 mb, cd-r, dvd, 19 gb drive with windows 98se. Can I upgrade my system, its a 8650c hp pavilion desktop pc.
Would it be best for me to buy a new one or upgrading it would be better? What do you recommend?

It depends on what you do with your puter. If you just surf the web and do email and a few applications like quicken etc., I would just upgrade. Put at least another 64 megs of Ram in it. You could put in a bigger hard drive too if ya want. You could then upgrade to Win XP. Your machine will support it with a minimum of 128 megs of ram.

Depends on what you want to upgrade. Are you wanting a faster processor? More memory? Better video card? Larger hard drive? More specifics would really help.
To answer that as a broad question, I personally would never upgrade a factory computer, it's not worth my time. I build all of my computers from scratch so I know what goes into them and what's upgradeable down the line.

probably not worth trying to upgrade your processor, as it will take a lot of research to find out what fits and the motherboard may not go much higher than 700-900mhz, which may not be readily available to buy any more.
you could add another hard drive if you need more storage space. 60/80GB drives can be got for £50 these days.
the cheapest upgrade would be more RAM. 128MB can be got for £15. do you find when you do anything on the PC (eg open another window on the internet) the PC makes some noises for a few seconds? that is your current hard drive working overtime because you are low on memory. if you upgrade the RAM this will make your PC a lot faster as it will not rely on your slow hard drive all the time.
