Computer starts but will not boot up to windows. I get an error message, disk bootup failer. Won't open in safe mode either. I get nothing when I put the start up or the windows98 CD in. When I am at the C: promt I tryed to format and it says not reading C. Another error message says Fat or Fat 32 not found. any Ideas? Thanks Computer was working fine the night before.

Go into the BIOS/Setup and see if the drives are recognized correctly. Then post back.

its my sisters computer and she says its a pentum 3.........we can't back anything up because we can't get into it..but thats ok there is nothing there that we can't live without.
The CMOS setup will tell you if your hard drive is working well enough to be 'seen' by the computer.
Based on your description, either the hard drive has some sort of problem/mechanical failure or else the computer has lost the drive's settings.
Hard drives are usually unrepairable, but if it's just a matter of lost settings, fairly easy to fix

ok after your check your hard drive in cmos and it is proper identified by your cmos! heres my opinion. if u are using win98 try to used your your startup disk, and boot in dos prompt check the file win.com in windows how to check heres the step from a: prompt type c:\ then press enter key at c:\ prompt type windows it look like this c:\windows then type dir win.com if win.com is missing well you need to reinstall your os but i seggest format your hard drive before you install your os to make your os fresh and clean...opps dont forget to back up your files...Another error message says Fat or Fat 32 not found<--- regarding this problem the best way format why maybe because the file system has been damage... before i forgot run antivirus first
