Hi guys I need help please. For some reason my computer has become very sluggish. When I click to open or close a document, it does it in segments starting from the top. Opening a webpage takes ages. My e-mail times out! I have run Ad-Aware, Spybot, Spysweeper, CWShredder and the spysweeper in Zonelabs. I,m in stealth mode and so I can go on but all of these don't detect any virus or worm or whatever. Help please

When was the last time you did something for the first time?

Could be all manner of things. Can you think of anything you did recently that might have caused this?

Overheating is a possibility if it happens some time after power on.

Better clear Temporary Internet Files and defrag I suppose.

Most likely is some background task. You could type msconfig in startup and untick things to see if you can find the culprit.

I would keep ScanRegsitry in place and all the standard things, such as LoadPowerProfiles (2), SystemTray, because these are not likely to cause problems.

Just in case it's a registry problem, restart in MS-DOS and type scanreg /fix (hit Return). You type exit (Return) to restart Windows.

If it's happened recently you could type scanreg /restore (same procedure as above) and choose a registry dated just before the problem happened.

Make sure your Ad-aware, spybot, etc are fully updated & run them from Safe Mode. Also, if you don't have CCleaner, get & run it regularly. Have you run MSCONFIG & checked for suspicious entries under the Startup tab?
