I'm assuming by "building up" you mean you're losing space on the HD? I've had the same problem, I tried everything, and decided to reformat it.

It really amazes me how many people think the solution to every computer problem is to reformat the HD. They give this advice seemingly with no consideration to the problems that could cause. This site is loaded with help messages from people who have reformatted their hard drives and are now dead in the water because they don't know what to do or don't have the necessary installation software and/or drivers to get the job done. Maybe a reformatting is necessary but it's not the first thing you do--it's the last.

Quantum has sold their disk drive division to Maxtor. If you do want a zero fill or low level formatting program you'll need to download PowerMax from Maxtor's site. Seagate and Fujitsu have versions of Disk Manager on their sites that also supply these utilities. Western Digital may also but I haven't checked. But again this is something you probably don't need to do.

If your hard drive is full consider getting a new one. Even if you reformat the old one, you'll be reinstalling the same software and filling it up again. If you don't install the same software why not uninstall what you don't want now to give more space on your current hard drive? Also you say you have 2 hard drives. You should setup the swap file on the second drive to give more room on your C: drive. If you haven't done so already defrag your drives. A heavily fragmented drive can slow things down.`
