Comment:

A friend's son is trying to do his homework on his PC, using word etc. after 5 or 10 minutes the PC resets and reboots.
Anyone any ideas?

A possible associated problem is that sometimes the HD is not recognized. He resets the PC and on second boot it starts OK

System:
Duron 800
256 mb ram
Nvidia Riva graphics
Elite M/B

Check the ram. Bad ram, or dirty connectors or tracers. You can clean the contacts with a pencil eraser.
