I downloaded Adobe Photoshop onto my computer from an internet site. When I realized how much of my drive space got taken up, I deleted it (without uninstalling). Along with that, I deleted some other programs as well. I noticed that it didn't give me any drive space back that I had lost due to this program (like it should be given back). It wasn't a virus, nor a trojan. I informed my friend of this, and he told me to scan disk. I tried for a solid hour one night to scan disk, and scan disk didn't do anything. It just sat there. I tried again the next night, and it still wouldn't do anything. I don't know what to do about it, I need some help. Is there anything I can do?

Hi,
Look at your Recycle Bin. All your deleted files can sit here still occupying drive space. If this is the case just clean the Recycle Bin.
Good luck, Igor M

This is the second time It happens to me. I tryed to make the digital audio extraction from a music cd, and i had 1.5Gb of free space in my only HD, then the software hanged up a couple of times and I was switching between the folder of wave files and the "my computer" folder to check how much disk space i was using, and It showed the normal amount of bytes I needed for each song.. 12 songs, but the problem started whith the track #8, then I restarted windows because of an error messg. that said that i was running out of disk space and I cheked the c drive's contents, and I had plenty of space.. I restarted windows and the extraction was still giving me problems, so I decided to erase the whole folder and extract again, but I deleted it, then emptyed the recycle bin, but I didn't recovered my 1.5Gb.. now I only have 730Mb,. I should have more..My question is:.. Does it have to do anything with my Easy CD Creator audio extraction ?.. Is my windows broken? (the computer was recently wiped out and re-installed all the software again,so windows should not be having disk space or memory problems). What software should I use to check for that lost gigabyte whitout having to re-install everyting over again?

still even with the serious flame did not answer why scan disk just sits and refuses to run. any advice on how to repair this tool function?

When I try to " defrag " my hard drive, it takes hours ! During the defrag process I keep getting this message: Drive contents changed: restarting defrag . Anyone know what gives? Thanks

To get rid of Adobe try reinstalling it using the same settings/paths etc as the first time (I am assuming you used all default settings.). Then once it is installed uninstall it propelry and then delete it. As for the defrag, if scandisk hasn't been performed it can reduce the effectiveness of defrag.

Noone has answered the original scandisk problem and I am having the same prob. It keeps on restarting because it says some program is writing to the drive. Nothing I have done so far seems to make the slightest bit of difference and I am getting really annoyed as i am now experiencing the same sort of problem with my defrag. help!

First of all when you scandisk or defrag you should make sure all programs are turne off or not running. Start with turning off the screen saver, then click CTL/ALT and Delete to get a window and begin closing all programs there execpt "EXPLORER" (if you close this you will shut down windows). It may take 2 or 3 attempts of doing this to close all programs (seems antivirus programs hang the worst and interfere the worst with these windows tools). Good luck. You should have nothing writing to disk after you do this to interfere with scandisk or defrag.

My scan disk keeps restarting and telling me som program is writing to the drive. Also my disk defragmenter keeps starting over too. What can I do.

If the above information doe's not help I have the solution to solve your problem.
Just reboot your machine into safe mode and run scan disk there the display will appear strange and some functions may not be available but scandisk and defragment will.
To boot into safe mode, restart your PC when you get to the screen that checks your memory and drives, wait until its finished checking the last drive and hold down the F8 key for a gew seconds. Another screen will appear with the option to reboot in safe mode.

My friend have down-losded some music files on his father's computer, now it shut down and scan disk reaches 36% and error is an extra-long file name and causing problem and scan disk says it canot correct the error. This happens over and over again in all modes
Anyone have an answer to this onee?

P.S. I forgot to say before that windows won't load after it gets to that point of not being able to correct this error
