Computer ops freezing up.

I need help! Basically,my computer was infected by a Trojan virus about a month ago.Ever since then it has not been operating properly.I have since installed anti virus software and has found the bug,but has not been able to completely eliminate it.When connected to the internet,sometimes everything just stops working altogether.I have been advised to wipe out the original O.S and re-install it.Preferably,I dont want to do that unless I absolutely have no choice.Scan disk and defragmanter will only work properly in safe mode and it seems that every time I start scan disk,there are errors found.Thats really the brunt of my problems.Appreciate it if some of you can help.(Please use simple language as I am not very conversant with computing language :)Thanks

ok prssibly a reinstall would be most helpful. but have you tried reinstalling your operating system over. not formatting just puttting a fresh version over the top?

Try this. After you get your desktop, click Start / Shut Down / restart in msdos mode. After it restarts, at the prompt, type scanreg/fix. See if this helps.

After you've tried scanreg /fix, scanreg / restore. This will take you to a previous date before the problems you are currently having.
