Do you have a window near by? If so, I suggest throwing the computer out of it. This works best if you are on a 3rd or 4th floor. Snoogans!

If you mean that you do not even get the P.O.S.T. up, then disconnect the HDD and then reboot. See if that makes a difference.

Try booting from a floppy with the HDD disconnected. Can you get into the BIOS?

If the RAM was bad, you would get multiple beats upon boot. Try replacing the cmoss battery.

I currently have a similar problem on my computer, I think it may be related to my CPU or the IDE bus, but I'm not sure. My computer won't start up when I press the power button, it won't beep, nothing will initialize, it just spins the CD for a sec and sits. I haven't fixed the problem, but when I hit 'reset' after I start it up, everything initializes and starts up just fine. So I live with it. Hrm...

I have a Abit BH6 with a very recent bios update, and a celeron 300a, and a TOSH DVD, TWO HDs, and an IDE Zip drive. This started happening if I remember correctly, when I installed the zip drive.

Hope this helps,

Tonza

Remove ALL connections including internal speaker. Only have bare essentials to boot up with i.e RAM, processor(inc fan), and video card. reboot Can you now get into the BIOS?. Is there any activity on screen?

Take it to a shop & see if they can find out the problem. Tell them to call with an estimate first. It might not be worth repairing.

You have to go to the basics.
As terry said: Disconect ALL components.
Connect CPU, RAM (see the right slot), internal speaker, video card and monitor. Power on.
Go and tell us what happen.

if you have a slot one processor try reseating the processor. Ive had several that have become unseated. I got lucky by pushing on everthing in the computer when I pushed on the slot one it clicked and the black screen came to life, Just a thought
