I just moved my desktop into another room. For some reason now, my computer just randomly shuts off. No blue screen, just completely off. It is as if someone just pulled the plug. Except everything is plugged in. The speakers are still on, but the monitor goes off and the PCU shuts off.

In order to turn it on again, I need to switch off the power strip, unplug the strip from the wall, and then turn on the power strip again. I have already tried a replacement power strip and it hasn't helped! Is this a hardware problem? Or an electricity/wiring problem in the room? I never had this problem until I switched the computer into the new room!!! Has anyone heard of this before? It's very strange! Thank you so much for any help or advice you may have!

What happens when you put it back in the other room? Does it randomly shut down then?

The best first step is the suggestion above by newgrl.

If you find you have the same problem, your case power supply may have coincidentally just started going flakey at the same time as your move.

When that was happening to one of my computers, I switched out the power supply from another computer and it is fine now.

I did try moving my computer workshop to the basement once and 3 different IDE controllers died over 3 days, I moved the workshop back upstairs on the 4th day.

The computer gods DO NOT favor change and will punish you for anything out of the ordinary!!

Hang garlic around your monitor and ask for forgiveness.

this might sound dumb after all that, but sometimes remembering the dumb things can save your pc :)

does the computer sit in direct sunlight? a lot of times when a computer 'shuts itself off' it's because the cpu is over-heating, check the back of the computer to see if you feel the air moving, if so, try downloading a utility or if your bios supports it, check bios for the temperature of your cpu. i had an issue recently where my system was shutting itself off, turned out that i need to keep the air conditioner on whether i like it or not :)

hope this helps
