computer locks up

I just subscribed to a cable modem service and every time I go online, my computer locks up shortly after. Especially when Im trying to download something. Ive tried using different browsers such as ie4.0, 5.0, 5.1, and even 5.5. I have reinstalled windows three times. And I ran a scandisk. I have no clue of what going on?????????????

Sounds like you need to take this up with the cable company...
Only other thing would be BIOS settings and force an IRQ to your network card so nothing else can share it...

i bet you have an AMD processor. if you do then that is your main problem.

Debbie, How did you know????? I have an AMD k6-2 and K6-3. Ive tried both and they do the same. Is there a fix or a patch for this??? Thanks for all of your followups!!!
