Once again I had to do a fresh install of Win98SE. Since the last time I got DSL. Open windows seem to lock up at regular intervals. If I let it sit a few seconds everything frees up. Probably some program is doing a DSN lookup, a resource does not exist causing the lock up, then after timing out everything frees up again. Booting also takes an incredibly long time. Sometimes the desktop never paints and booting fails. I read somewhere about registry settings to fully disable certain protocols, but I can't find that posting at groups.goggle.com. I do not have DUN installed. Thanks

just a maybe:
I was getting very regular lockups if I let the machine sit idle for more than 6 minutes, even with screen savers NOT on, nothing was showing as a background task. Then got an error re webcheck.dll. checked the version conflict manager and put back the latest ver. NO MORE LOCKUPS. Worth a check for that or something similar.

Go to http://www.downloads.com and search for the program taskinfo. Download and run this program, it will show you exactly what's running on your system in real time.

Pretty cool program. Hope this helps someone out!

I have a good task manager, Sinfo 2.12. Works real good. I don't need to know what programs I have running, though. I am sure it's a network protocol problem. I know there's a registry setting to turn off all protocols not being used. I just don't know what it is and I can't find it anywhere.
