Computer beeps continually

When I switch my computer on it starts to beep immediately, and continues to beep approx every second. The monitor does not turn on. I have checked the graphics card and RAM on another computer and they are operating fine. I have not recently installed anything on my computer. I have had this problem before but it seemed to fix itself until now.
