Ok heres the deal. I have a Compaq Presario 5888. Athlon Processor. 700 mghz. 20 gig c-drive 20gig d-drive. Windows 98. My father recently purchased a Hewlett Packard Windows ME (1 ghz Pentium 3 30 gig c-drive no d-drive) It came with three restore CDs. Could I use these cds on my Compaq and still have a working computer? Oh yea his has no dvd drive just a cd burner but mine has a burner and dvd. Thanks!

Andrew, I was in you boat once and still use 'em when necessary. If HP's restoration kit includes 2 or more CD's, and it probably does, you can pop them in your machine and browse each one through windows explorer. Just wait for the auto run feature on the CD's to finish telling you it cannot find a necessary file blah blah blah, then close the annoying little window. The trick to installing any of the software that comes loaded on the CD's is to figure out the coding that HP used to describe each one. A lot of times I simply would just double click an application to run it so I could see exactly what it was. It' pretty much a trial and error thing, but it is doable!
