About two days ago I tried to restore my computer and half way thru the restoring it came up with the error image file corrupt or invalide. After this I tried restoring the computer again and the same thing happened. I took the disk out and restarted the computer. Now when it starts up the compaq logo comes on and then goes to a black screen with a blinkin -. I tried to restor the BOIS but it doesnt work plus the harddrive is connected correctly. what can I do?

It sounds to me like the drive is probably NOT connected correctly or you bent a pin.

Yeah, the error message was probably a problem with the cdrom. But you still should be able to boot with a floppy disk. If that works, run fdisk, Y to large disk support, then option 4. Exactly what does it say?

Disregard the bent pin comment. I misinterpreted the "took the disk out".

You can download a boot disk from www.bootdisk.com on another machine. You then create the floppy on that machine and use it on the one which is faulty.
Alternatively a W98 Startup disk made on a W98 machine will do (maybe you did this sometime). You go to Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs and you will see the tab there.

My machine came with eight restore CD's. CD's 3 and 4 have a 50/50 chance of either working or giving the 'crappy image' error (I forget the wording). I made copies of them and the copies work without a hitch.
If you have the option of making a copy of the CD on another machine, it's worth a shot. If it doesn't work, you get a free coaster.
