I am trying to re-install windows onto my Presario 1220. Would it be possible to use a Compaq quick restore CD and windows 98 CD from a newer computer to do this? Tried using regular windows 98 and I am having troubles finding all of the Drivers. The Presario is 200MMX 128MB, 3 Gig. The restore CD is from a Pentium III PC.

John, I can't imagine the quick restore cd would work from a PIII machine in a P200MMX. A machine that different will have very different drivers than what is needed on your machine. If you know your computer's make and model, you should be able to find all the drivers you need on Compaq's website just by going to support/drivers, or something similar. You may also need drivers from other manufacturers depending on your hardware, but the PIII restore cd won't help you at all with that.

John, the newer QR you are trying to use will not have the correct drivers on them. The qr set is model specific. There may be some drivers available at www.compaq.com/consumersupport. Just click "drivers and downloads", and put in the model info. The best thing to do though if you don't have the original restore set is to call the Compaq order center at 1-800-952-7689 and order a set. I am fairly certain the qr should be $15.00. Hopefully, they are still available.

The quick restore is still out there for the 1220. I just did one last week. However, the same quirks of the machine still exist. Constant hang ups. I downloaded the Windows 98 Bios from Compaq and installed it and so far, the hang ups have gone away. I haven't seen any problems by using the newer bios other than the mouse seems less sensitive. I am trying a different mouse to see if my old one is just wearing out. The machine also seems a bit faster with the new bios.
