Hi I have a question with very little info for you.I upgraded my friends laptop ( Compaq Presario 1685 )from win 98 to win 98 SE and since then his only complaint so far is the dvd player now plays dvd's sort of slow and herky jerky.Im thinking either update the drivers or not enough ram to run win 98 SE properly.Ive never had any luck updating drivers from the system properties, would I go to the video card web site and try from there if it is a driver problem?Thanx for any ideas.

Check out Compaq's website for updated drivers - www.compaq.com.
Use msconfig to stop programs from loading at boot up to free up some memory.

Make sure DMA is set to on for the DVD drive

Make sure that you video and sound drivers and DirectX are up to date, and then there might be something running in the background that might be causing DVD playback to not work right.
