Compaq Presario 56K-DF Modem

I have a Compaq Presario 4532 computer with the Compaq Presario 56K-DF modem installed. The Modem is using COM2 and it looks like LTMODEM.VXD, and VMM32.VXD (VCOMM.VXD) drivers. On the Connections tab of the properties sheet the option to "Disconnect a call if idle for more than ____ mins." is greyed out and I have been unsuccessful finding out why? Is there a setting somewhere I am missing, or is this option just not available with the Compaq 56K-DF modem. I have tried without success to get the answer from compaq. Can anyone help?

IE is the only program that I've found that has this as an option (there may be others?). I've looked for it in Netscape and couldn't find it.

I think you will find the driver for win2000 at www.globalvisioncomputer.com or you can do a search on yahoo for modem532.exe. I have not installed it yet but am told it will work.

This particular modem is based off of the LT Winmodem chipset. You should be able to use the generic drivers released by Lucent. You can find all the drivers to date at http://808hi.com/56k/ltwin7.htm or you can get the most current from http://www.lucent.com/micro/K56flex/driver2.html I have found from experiance that the 5.70 firmware seems to be the most stable across the board.

I see Compaq 4540 Restore Disk has all drivers
with coded names,so I cant tell which has the
compaq 56K-DF driver in it.....however I
copied LTMODEM.VXD and VMM32.VXD on floppy or
will email them if you state how to do it.
I am assuming these of the drivers 56K-DF uses ???

Loading software directs me to com1. Original software
has 56k in com2. How do I open com2, or where can I find

For those of you who need the drivers for a Compaq Presario 1220 - the video driver is on your recover disk or use a standard PCI Graphics Adaptor Driver - I'm using NMGCZV-Drv and it's working well. For the Compaq 56K-DF Modem - the driver is listed in the drivers files on the Win98 install CD.

Sorry, should have listed the reference in my last entry. For the 56K-DF driver go to the Win98 Install CD, Look under Drivers/Compaq/Lucent/Model-Compaq Presario 56K-DF. The type is "Winmodem" and is in the Compaq folder. If you have tried to get the driver or information from Compaq - my condolenses. :-) Gunny MCP/A+

OK folks - final entry - just downloaded a better driver for the 56K-DF - has my modem flying. Go to http://du.edu/uts/helpdesk/56k/data.html
Download theVersion 5.49 for the Lucent WinModem - it's a self extracting zip and get rid of your old driver then install itself -it's good - give it a try.
