My Compaq Presario 5000 1GHz AMD Athlon Desktop PC won't boot up. I revieved it from a friend with out a hard drive or memory. I put the HD & Mem from the PC that I'm using now into the Compaq and don't get anything on the screen. I can here the HD and the light on the front shows that there is activity with the drive but I don't get a screen. I tried another video card but that diden't work. If it helps at all there are no beeps coming from the PC.... Anyone have any Ideas as to what I can try or do?

Thanks Guys

Is the hard drive properly jumpered and connected--red striped edge of the ribbon cable connected to the #1 pin side of both the motherboard and HD connectors?

Is the memory compatible with the compaq?

Compaq puts it bios info on the hard in a hidden partition.

Go to HP/Compaq's site and get the BIOS files for your model and follow the instructions to install them on your hd.
