I want to get rid of the Compaq Windows Program because of it freezing up. I reformatted the hard drive and with it went the f-10 Setup Program. Windows will load but no setup program for future use. I used the restore CD from Compaaq and it restored all. Now I try to load over the existing Windows with a different one and I get a disk compression or disk cacke utility in use. I do not know where to go from here. The Compaq design will not let me install another copy of windows 95, just theres. Thanks Mike Ziemann

Probably you used fdisk instead of format. With format c: the (f10)partition should stay where it is.. btw..if you install another win95, remember that certain Compaq hardware need special drivers which are not included in Win95..

you can download the Utilities for win'95 from the Compaq site. Are no label, but when you install it, can see the control program for all features of your notebook

be careful in doing this. On my presario 4160, the video drivers are 'encrypted' onto the restore disk, and according to compaq are otherwise 'unavailable'. So for me to do what you are doing, requires disabling and replacing the on board video card.
