YES. If you delete this partition then Compaq has no where to put it's proprietary drivers and it's backup copies of windows. You can however (if you leave the partition in tact) safely do a clean install without the "much needed" recovery disk.

If you do delete all the partitions (or replace a drive), you can download a utility from the Compaq site to restore the Compaq partition. At least that's what they claim. :-)

I don't know if the ROMPAC will do that or not. I've never been brave enough, or dumb enough, as the case may be to delete that partition. I'm afraid if you don't get it exactly the right size that Compaq won't recognize it and then you will be up a creek without a paddle.

If you're talking about the F10 setup partition--that's no big deal. You can download the utility to set it up again.

Terri, the ROMPAQ is a BIOS upgrade. There is a separate download to recreate the F10 partition. It's referred to as the "Setup & Diagnostics" Softpaq.

Thanks Dave. I needed that info with as many Compaq's as I end up working on. And hey I just got a couple pics of the baby the other day. Working on getting them up. When I do I'll let you know.

Terri, when I was visiting your site the other day, I was thinking that you need to update the family photos page. Can't wait to see the new addition.
