I'm running a Compaq MV500 with Windows 98, I've had the computer since '98 and, about 6 months ago, purchased a new one (Dell). I packed the Compaq away as it was, and I decided recently to bring it back up & use it for a few resource programs of mine. It seems like the computer and programs ran as they did when I packed up the computer those months ago, however, it fails to run any CD's in the CD-ROM drive. It looks and acts as though it reads the cd put into the drive, it just doesn't put any action to it. This goes for program cd's and music cd's. I had it in mind to do a QuickRestore for the system, but I can't get the QuickRestore cd to launch! Any suggestions as to what could be wrong or how I would go about fixing it?

Sarah,my first thought is that your CD/ROM has just quit working probably from sitting for awhile and also it is about 4 yrs old.if you can get a spare one to slip in the puter you can tell for sure.I would do that before re-formating,,Good luck Frank
