restore error? where you running a restore disk? please give more details as to what you are doing.
Cheers, Bill2

I am trying to use the quick restore disk. (2 cds) I think that is what they call them. When i try to use them it gives me an error then locks up. I tried a differen't cd-rom. All i am trying to do is boot to the cd and then let it do its thing. Its funny thouse restores are great when every thing works but when they don't its a pain. If you need any more info out of me just ask. Thanks for any coments, Travis

Have you added\replaced any hardware? Or did you perhaps format the drive before trying the restore?
Compaq loads the BIOS on some of it's computers onto the hard drive and formatting wipes this off. If this is the case, Compaq has a setup utility disk available on their site.

SOME HANDY HINTS FOR RESTORING COMPAQ'S FROM A RESTORE CD:
First make sure you are working from dos and not windows.
If you have 2 cd rom drive in dos they reverse themselves. In other words if your DVD drive is: E and your CD-RW is: F, then they show up in dos as:
CD-RW: E
DVD: F
Understand? So when the prompt tells you to insert your cd restore disk into the DVD drive, insert it into the CD-RW.DO NOT let it restore your computer from a backed up version of its own. If you do this it may restore a damaged copy and you will have to do it all over again.
In order to force the pc to create a new back up from the cd rom:
Remove all partitions by way of a standard win98 Boot disk first.
Now being all partitions are removed setup has no choice but to format and create a new backup from the cd rom instead of taking a damaged copy from your hard drive. Now just sit and wait for a few hours. You will have to configure some things like the connections to your ISP, or maybe even download a modem or install stuff like printers, or scanners but the cd does the rest for you.
Now how do I know all this? Personal experiences reformatting Compaq's.
