Compaq bios access

I've got an old Compaq 486 and the only info i can find on the mobo Assem # 003421-011 Diagram # 003423 and replace with Compac Spare 197023-011. Question 1 is how do i access the bios ? Question 2 how do i change the language to english. I think it will be in german because both the autoexec.bat and config.sys are. Thanks Judith.

Try F10 to enter BIOS

Well, try either pressing ctrl+alt+del when the system starts counting memory or press F8 or the DELETE key. Either one should put you in the BIOS, but try pressing F8 first.

I have an old 486 compaq contura 410cx, and want to replace hard drive. tried all these keys to enter bios to no avail, any other quirks? The dianostics have been removed and are on floppies, do i reinstall?
