Hi all,
Got a very frustrating problem, its wierd too. Obviously my subject is a little exageratted, i can install one windows system... win 98. Not that i have anything against it, but id like to be a little higher in the pack. Well, when i try to install win me(clean) it freezes at the part where you put in your name and company. If i try to install win 2k or win xp it freezes after it gets done with the dos part and goes to setup everything else, the screen just goes black after giving system info like always. Im not quite sure whats wrong, i was thinking its something with the cpu caching and things... but it didnt make much dif, im pretty sure its something with the bios. Ive installed dif hard ware everytime with the same bad luck. But what puzzels me is that i can install win 98 and it works fine... anyideas? Thanks in advance

-Ish

64 MB of RAM is really low, even for Win 98.
For instance Microsoft says 128 MB is OK for installing XP, but I wouldn't run it with less then 256 MB

It's most likely caused by the hardware you have, mainly the motherboard. For a K6-2, your motherboard is most likely obsolete and probably never had drivers made for it from Win98SE.

If you want to use ME, 2000 or XP, then a motherboard upgrade would be recommended. If that would be too formidable, then you may have to stick with Win98.

have you made sure virus warning in bios is disabled? It stopped me installing o/s's

You should really upgrade to 128mb ram if you want to install other o/s's

The thing is, ive gotten better performance from my 166 motherboard. Im wondering if there is something wrong with the board, also... how hot is the cpu supposed to get? cause this thing gets really hot, even with a cpu fan and heat sink. Thanks for the replies
