I too have "type the name of the command interpreter" I have tried all I can find, fdisk, scandisk, tried making it boot from cd-rom, floppy...I really don't have much info on this computer. The person I got it from said it is a digital. I do know that it is 350mz and suppose to be 10gig. I can't even get the prompt to change from c> Tried the sys c: too and more. any help would really be appreciated. Thank You

I did try the command.com. I still come up with "type the name of the command interpreter". I am starting to think it is a bad hard drive but not ready to give up on it yet. Thank You

Are you using a bootdisk to type these commands or are you just trying to boot off the hard drive?

no fdisk status nothing I am booting off hard drive and typing the command. I have tried to boot off a floppy but everything comes up the same. And I am not able to change to A, and it does not go to A: when I use a floppy. I have also tried this from the cd-rom. No matter what I do it won't come off the C> "type the name of the command interpreter"

Ok. The first thing is to boot off the floppy. Go into the BIOS and make sure that the floppy drive is set first in the boot sequence.

Strange. When it asks for command intepreter. Try these:
c:\command.com
c:\windows\command.com
c:\windows\command\command.com
insert your bootdisk in the drive and then type
a:\command.com

About all I can think of next is to take the drive out of the computer and put it in another computer and fix it that way. Do you know how to do this? I assume you have a working computer since you are on one right now.

You don't actually need to mount the drive in the case since this will only be temporary.
I've done it plenty of times, but if you don't feel confident about doing it then maybe you shouldn't do it.

You can disconnect the working drive and set the nonworking drive as primary. I assume the working computer can boot with a bootdisk. You then should be able to boot with the bootdisk (Check BIOS to make sure floppy drive is first in boot sequence) and use sys c:. The whole problem seems to be a missing command.com on the nonworking hard drive.

Insert your Windows installation disk and try reinstalling before you resort to taking the hard drive out. I had that problem before and couldn't figure out what to do, but reinstalling Windows fixed it.

He was talking about booting from the cdrom to install windows. Your computer may or may not support that. It would be in the BIOS.

Dave..I am going to wait till monday to do the hard drive thing. I have a couple of old computers in the back room, I am going to kind of practice with first, just so I can get familiar with hooking and unhooking it.
