Does anyone know if there is a command line which I can put in a shortcut to restart W98 in DOS please?

Do a Find Files for exitto (you should locate the "exit to DOS" shortcut. Just copy this shortcut to your desktop or quick launch bar. It will work just the same as if you had clicked start>shutdown>restart in ms-dos mode.

If you mean you have exited to dos and now want to restart windows just type "win" at the dos prompt. If you're in the dos window just type "exit"

To restart windows;
C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL.exe USER.EXE,EXITWINDOWSEXECTo shut down windows;
C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.exe \system\user.exe,exitWindowsSorry I don't know the syntax (yet) for what you want, but this may spur some thoughts in yourself or others on this forum. HTH.

Oodles of thanks to RK, exactly what I asked for and it worked fine. This also lead me on to realise that it boiled down to a shortcut to c:\windows\command.com with the Advanced Program Settings arranged for MS-DOS mode, using "current configuration".
Daveincaps.
Not what I wanted but it raised a query because I had in the past typed exit from the DOS prompt and it worked. So I tried Win (out of curiosity) and it froze the machine which started in Safe Mode next time I powered on. Very odd - that's computers I reckon.Dan Penny.
Yep, was aware of those two and wondered if something similar existed for Restart-in-DOS. Maybe there isn't one eh!Thanks to all for your inputs.

A PS for DAVEINCAPS:
Having cured an unrelated problems in Windows (put back previous registry) I then found WIN from DOS Prompt worked fine, and so did EXIT.
So the crash was obviously nothing to do with typing WIN. That's computers again eh!
