"COMDLG32.DLL is linked to missing export SHELL32.DLL" I get the above error message during a program installation. Running Win98. Found two copies of COMDLG32 in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM and WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 folders. Tried removing one then the other, swapping them around, checking that no background applications are active. Anybody seen anything similar with a solution other than a re-installation of the OS?

I can open any of my icons on my desktop and when i go into the files themselves i cant open them in there either i get the message: COMDLG32.DLL is linked to missing export SHELL32.DLL:645 i looke dont his page and it said i could find it to download the bitcrawler.com is not available at the moment and the microsoft page doesnt give met he down load for it. Please help as i cant open ICQ or Yahoo messangers or miscrosoft chat.

I have the same problem, I re-installed Win95, everything seems fine on bootup, however, right after my wallpaper appears, that error message comes up and windows stops booting. ANy Help would be greatly appreciated. Tony

it is caused because your scanner software installed an old version of SHLWAPI.dll in it's program directory.
Do Find > Files > SHLWAPI.DLL
You should find 2. Rename the one in the scanner program directory to SHLWAPI old.dll (for example), reboot and try the software again. If there is still a failure, copy the SHLWAPI.DLL file from \Windows\System into the directory where the 'old' version is.
