http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/ for a useful file splitter/joiner, but I've combined AVI's and MPG's from a DOS prompt:

COPY 1.mpg + 2.mpg + 3.mpg 123combined.mpg

(all on one line - this £$%^&* editor splits it!)

huh..
nuthings work... The DOS commmand is not working on my system (it do creates a file but of 1 kb which) and that link is useless.. it just combines the files that are splitted by the software itself....
NEed more help....

Go to download.com and do a site search for avi-mpeg joiner. Great free program altho I'm not sure if it will join wmv files.
Good luck, by the way, this program uses an xp type menu..

The link ISN'T useless - you have to rename the files as video.001, video.002, etc. and select the 001 file in the menu.

If you're trying to use the DOS Copy command, you'll need the /B switch. Here's the full text of the COPY command help:
COPY [/A | /B] source [/A | /B] [+ source [/A | /B] [+ ...]] [destination
[/A | /B]] [/V] [/Y | /-Y]

source Specifies the file or files to be copied.
/A Indicates an ASCII text file.
/B Indicates a binary file.
destination Specifies the directory and/or filename for the new file(s).
/V Verifies that new files are written correctly.
/Y Suppresses prompting to confirm you want to overwrite an
existing destination file.
/-Y Causes prompting to confirm you want to overwrite an
existing destination file.

The switch /Y may be preset in the COPYCMD environment variable.
This may be overridden with /-Y on the command line
