My computer was not able to access the cd drive (acer). I thought it was broken so I replaced it with a new sony cd drive. Now the computer can read the cd drive however the color is stuck at 16 and will not let me change it to 256. None of the cd's will run until I increase the color. I was told that I need to update the driver for the adapter. What adapter? How do I identify it. and where to I get the driver I need once I have identified the proper adapter. Thanks for the help.

None of that made a lot of sense to me. Replacing a CD drive will not upset your video drivers in any but the most bizarre scenarios. Are you running in safe mode? Did you reformat the computer and not considder that an important detail?
