Howdy bobwell!

Open "Volume Control Panel" and be sure the other audio sources are checked.

Just a guess. Hope this helps!

Could you elaborate a little please.
Do you mean that they won't play or they play but no sound?
If they don't play, do you get error messages? What are you using to try and play and what kind of sound files are they?

I fixed this problem accidentally. You have to use the original Hercules GamemuseXL sound card driver(Not the updated driver)(I know it sounds crazy, but it works!!!). The Gamemuse driver is a C media driver.
I Installed a new motherboard that included the chip you are talking about and accidentally forgot to put in the CD with the driver, so it picked the Game muse driver. Worked fine!!!
When I wiped and reinstalled, I put in the C media driver and it would not work...so I thought about it and tried the Game muse driver and it works fine.
I know the problem...a song plays for a while and then just skipppppps. Even a mouse click would set it off. I have a great system, so I knew it wasn't a resource problem.
I know this sounds crazy, but it does work.
