My CMI8330 won't Record, I get great playback but not recording, using MusicMatch I can burn mp3's all day but to actually make a wav w/ sndrec32. Nothing happens....
I feel like I'm fairly knowledgeable but what gives?... new drivers have worked I don't know what the problem is...

It's something simple. Is the microphone muted in either the sound card settings or when you double click the taskbar icon? Is the mike sound level turned down too low? Is the mike plugged into the right hole on the sound card? Open windows explorer, click View/Folder Options/File Types, scroll down to wave file, and click Edit. It should say Open, Play and Record in the Actions box. If record is missing, click Edit and add it.

The Recording properties are all shadowed in the Sound Propeties CPL. They do not allow for adjustment.

NOT the sound properties in CPL.
Double click the speaker icon that's on the taskbar next to the time. That should bring up a mixer box where you can change the sound settings. If there is no speaker icon on the taskbar, click Add & Remove in CPL, then Windows Setup, and see if Volume Control was installed when Windows was. If not, install it, or remove it and reinstall it.
Then in sound properties in CPL you should be able to click "show volume control on taskbar".
If the sound card was installed correctly and it's drivers, it should have it's own mixer program where you can change the volume, midi, cd, mike and other settings also.

I installed a new motherboard (MS571S)from tigersystem that has the C-Media's 8330 chipset sound with it's drivers. When I installed the modem from digicom (creative's Lab), windows crashes as soon as I type my password. The modem and windows (98) works fine when there is no sound drivers intalled and windows work fine when the sound drivers are intalled with no modem but they can't work together. How can I fix this?

It's none of the above. There are extra sound utilities on the driver disk that enable you to record. Look in the utilities folder.

I have a lot of trouble configuring the sound bard to work with any Voice write program. After an initial success one time in a voice chat in yahoo, the second attempt failed to connect voice. Why? The failure to work with Voice write is incompatability, no gain control and other errors. Why?

Does the 8330 sound chip support A3d? in windows 98, it lists the a3d driver, and i downloaded the newest a3d drivers, and it updated it fine....and in most games, a3d works ok, and doesnt slow down the computer at all...surrround sound works ok, but i want to know what exactly this sound card supports, and is there any other sound card drivers i could use to enhance or take advantage of the chips full usage?
thanks!

Does anyone know where I can get a3d drivers. I get a yellow exclamation after installing Windows 2000, on a Tiger system that has the CMI8330 card. The sounds works half-a**ed and I need the distortion taken competely away, and that yellow mark removed from the 3d part.

HELP!!!

I've just spent half a day trying to get a CMI8330 sound card to work, Then I found this site through GOOGLE.COM - Try going to the following website, but I suggest you do it at about 2am Japanese time, otherwise expect download speeds of less than 3k/s. This site contains win2K drivers as well as updated (ie; ver 2.0 beta) drivers for win95/98.

the system crashes could be do if you installed a "modem Blaster" modem
the oem drivers only work with sound blaster sound cards.
go to http://www.modemblaster.com/techsupp/dlmb.html
to get the good drivers. you may need to diable you sound card or pull it out, so you can use you new modem. i found this modem will not work with a lot of asound drivers.
hope this helps

OK here is the fix for not being able to record:
1.)Open the volume control in the system tray, or get to it through the start menu, and open it.
2.)click on options
3.)click on properties
4.)click on recording
5.)check all the boxes in the box at the bottom.
6.)click on OK
7.)check all the boxes in the recording control to select them(in the volume control you check them to mute, but in the recording it enables them!)
8.)THERE YOU GO!!

I, like others here now think that this chipset sucks and am almost ready to chuck it out.

After having everything working solidly in NT4 for the past 18 months (same hardware), I have switched to windows ME from a clean build. I have downloaded the latest drivers (30w98ver20.zip) from cmedia, and it all works except the mpu401 interface. Whatever I do, I cannot get my music keyboard back in through the midi port. It was OK previously with NT. using PCChips M590 with onboard cm8330. Any clues?

Yeah, this CMI8330 SUCKS GARBAGE! I've spent the last 3 nights trying to get it to work (just for dialpad.com as that idiotic site doesn't support the mac or linux - why???). Now that I see I have to click on all the checkboxes under the volume control - how intuitive is that? It barely works now (have to yell to get a signal). My fix is now to burn it with a torch, find another site equivalent to dialpad.com and use my linux or mac...
