I have a Compaq Presario 1600 Laptop. I'm trying to install new software. Instr. to close everything except Explorer & Systray. There is another one called Syntplpr that refuses to close. How do I close it? Why won't it close when I press END TASK?

Hello,
You first ought to read about SYNTPENH at this page. If you have questions, please let me know. Anyway you can try to desable the SynTPLpr and SYNTPENH.You need to use then a normal PS/2 mouse, because USB mouse will be desabled. To desable those 2 progs to run in the background, go to Start>Run>type MSCONFIG,hit OK; then click the Startup tab and uncheck Syntplpr & SYNTPENH, give OK and when asked, hit the final OK to reboot.
