Clicking "Send and Receive" disconnects internet connection

Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem. In Windows'98, while connected to the internet, if I press 'send and receive' in Outlook Express 5, my internet connection (phone line) is terminated.

This problem just started recently. Everything worked fine before. I'm wondering if some setting has been changed accidently that would cause this.

Any help would be appreciated.

it sounds like you have "hang up after sending and recieving" turned on. Start up Oulook Express and go to Tools, options, connection. Take the checkmark out of "hang up after sending and recieving". That sould do the trick.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I may not have explained the problem fully. The connection is terminated immediately upon clicking the 'send and receive' button, not after sending or receiving the message. Any other suggestions.

You may want to look at your modem log...start/settings/control panel/modems/properties/properties/advanced/log and look at it and see why it is disconnecting you. Maybe an Internet exployer setting doing it. Look at the log
