Hi, my computer system has been running very erradically the past week and i want to perform a system restore. In the past i have used my compaq quick restore disk to do so. This is, however, the fifth time i'd be doing so and what i really want to do is start fresh. I want a clean install of windows 98 se. Is this possible even though all i have is the quick restore disk? My computer did not come with a windows os disk. Please help.

How old is your PC , and you say you do not have a 98SE disk for your system, then I personally would go back to where you purchased the PC , and ask for the disk , that should have been with (98Se)the PC ,when you made the purchas of the system!
If you purchased as a second hand system, the person selling to you must hand over the "OS" that is on the hard drive !

The quick restore disk has 98 on it, so you would not get a 98SE in addition to the quick restore disk. I just did this, and I didnt see any option to just restore 98, it was all or nothing.

thanks, but what i was really questioning was that is there a difference between reinstalling windows, and just using my quick restore disk? I am asking this because even after i perform my system restore programs have been installing very poorly and many files have becoming "corrupted". Any help here?

Hmmm, I would wonder, if you have "restored" your computer to a state that would be considered "Factory Fresh", and it has gone "corrupt" many times in a short time frame, I would highly recommend taking it to a Reputable service shop and have them test your hardware thouroughly. Your problem may not ly in the o/s, but possibly in the hard-drive, RAM or other device in your computer.

If the house catches fire, SAVE the computer!!

A service shop owner will have a "POST CARD" that will allow them to make a quick diganostic check to your PC .
