Is the harddrive clean, in regard to virus infections, if you use format c: command from a boot-disc. Does Win98 leave system files on a formatted drive.

format C: won't by it's self won't leave system files on your hard drive. If you want system files so you can boot to a C: prompt you have to type in format C: /s

Viruses (virii?) often have a nasty habit of hiding in the boot sector of the harddrive. The FORMAT command won't clear the Master Boot Record. To clear this, type:
fdisk /mbr (ENTER)
This, combined with the format command should leave the HD virus-free.
