I have a Cyrix 333pr(83.3 X 3)cpu, Samsung UDMA/33 4.3gb HDD, 48mb of HP edo 70ns ram, A PcChips Topgun m570 mobo with CMi8330 sound onboard.
I keep getting frozen when attempting to clean install the OS.
I have the current C-media Sound drivers(which are known to conflict with the WIN98 os), I also have disabled the L2 Cache in the CMOS and disabled the advanced power management interface.
With all that said, all components are new from the manufacturers; and this system either does not install correctly or installs and freezes every 5minutes.

I need help my wife can't use ICQ99 and she is about ready to kill me.

Go back to win95, win98 is horrible. I have been using it since it came out and have now gone to nt workstation/win95 on seperate partitions, they both work much better then win98

Hi,

I used to have the same mobo, and had similar problems. I went into the BIOS and disabled the on board sound chip, everything worked fine from then on. Having said that, I understand that there are now some drivers out for this chip, that do not conflict with W98. Try the little black box to the left of your question, if no luck, try winfiles .com

Good luck

Problem is potentially solved..........
Using Microsoft System Information, I checked thru Hardware Resources > irqs. To my horror I had conflicting ide drivers on Irq 14 & 15, I disabled the Windows software drivers in favor of the Mobo's... as of this posting no freezes after 30 minutes of uptime. Thank all of you for your assistance.
