I've recently run into a bit of a problem. Everytime i open up the Display Properties in the Control Panel, I get an error message saying "CoCreateInstance Failed Class not registered". How do i fix this? I deleted the desk.cpl and replaced it with a new one and i still reciever the same message. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Long Shot...
Try scanning for viruse.. I know that may be obvious, but who knows..
By what I have been able to find out is sounds like you nay have a corrupt registry. Have you tried reistalling WINDOWS...

I had the same problem, and it turned out to be that my 3D graphics card was mistakenly uninstalled. Once installed again, the error went away.

Good luck

Same problem as Tony. Pair of 3DII's worked fine on my Dell but upgraded to ASUS P3V4X and I'm hosed. Did a new install of Win'95 OSR2 and latest drivers from web. I'm suspecting some sort of memory conflict. Any help anyone?

I am getting the same message...cocreate instance failed...class not registered. There was a board that I read that said delete all the mnstr files from your system folder...that didn't work for me. I was using a ragepro video driver...then added a voodoo3 2000...any tips or hints on fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately I'm getting the same message and looking for an answer.

I have a Riva TNT2, on an FIC board (using MVP3 chipset).

I have tried running RegMedic which can remove all hardware entries in the registry and let Windows 98 SE redetect the hardware installed. This didn't work either.

I am a at a loss.

Well this board help me greatly...
I just removed my diamond viper 550 AGP and dual Monster 2 cards and replaced them with a voodoo5. I got the exact same error... "CoCreateInstance Failed, Class not registered" when right-clicking for Properties. I went into C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM on my WIN98 machine and manually moved any Mnstr*.* files. Message went away... Haven't rebooted yet :-) but don't expect problems. Thanks.

I also had a problem switching from 2 MonsterII's to a Voodoo3 3000. I actually don't think it happened right away as I also changed the monitor, but it may have. Anyway, I deleted all the mnstr.* files from Windows\System and made sure any installed programs that started with Monster were Uninstalled using "Add/Remove Programs" in Control Panel. All was fine afterwards.

SWEET! Keep this thread alive! I recently yanked my Voodoo2 and put in a Voodoo3, got the same problem with right clicking on desktop to go to display properties and getting "Class Not Registered". Deleting mnstr*.* in my /windows/system directory fixed it!!!
