Comment:

well i just signed up so lets see if this works:

win95b
pentium mmx

on boot up i get an error:

sound blaster error: need to install latest version creative interface manager cifman.dll

i got this on 2 different computers after i set up new hardware for creative sb 16

i have the latest version cifman.dll on a floppy, but when i try to copy and paste in win. explore sys file it says cannot do this, windows is using this file.
i can just click ok to get by this error but i would like to fix it.

thanks, (hope it is simple since i am a novice eager to learn.)

If you know where it's supposed to go, Boot to Dos standalone and type:
copy a:\cifman.dll c:\destination folder

thanks darren:
well that kind of worked, at least i can enter a command.
but i must not have the latest version of
CIFMAN.DLL

the exact wording of the error is:

SOUND BLASTER ERROR
c:\windows\system\sb16snd.drv requires a newer version of CIFMAN.DLL in the windows system directory

at first i typed copy a:\cifman.dll c:\windows\sys\dir
and it didnt work. (error)

so i tried c:\windows\system and that worked
(accepted command)
but still had error on reboot

still waiting? JAG

JAG, Go to the CIFMAN SEARCH link below my name(Homepage:). You may have to download several files to get the later version then the one you have. Just download some, right click the files, click properties and under the version tab you'll see the version number. Try using the latest version and put it in your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder. Hope this helps.
