I'm a novice and I wonder if you can help me. (I've already downloaded Driver Detective v2.0) I want to change my resolution from 640x480 to 800x600. I have an old Packard Bell Spectria 300CDQ, Windows 95 (with no CD). I tried to change it myself by going into Control panel--Display--Change Display type. My Adapter Type default is Cirrus Logic 5430 PCI. When I click the Change button and Show All Devices, it lists Cirrus Logic, CL 7542 PCI, CL 7543 PCI, and CL PCI.
My Monitor Type default is Standar Monitor Types and the Model is Standard VGA 640x480. When I click Show All Devices it lists, among others, Super VGA 800x600. When I clicked on this, I restarted my computer, and my monitor's sides squeezed in to 2/3 of its length, the picture became distorted, and the top part of the screen was inaccessible to my mouse.
From My Computer--Properties--Device Manager-Display Adapters (Cirrus Logic 5430 PCI, Hardware Version 045). I have 3 driver files: Supervega.drv, cirrus.vxd, and cirrusmm.drv. When I click the Change driver button (there is no New Driver button), and Show All Devices, I get the same screen I described above (Cirrus Logic, etc.).
Sorry for the long explanation. Am I able, given my old computer, to change my resolution? Is this done by downloading a new driver? If I do need a driver, I don't understand the first thing about. There was no explanation at drivershq.com. Any assistance you can give is greatly appreciated. thanks

Hi Howard Trustman:
You need to find the correct Win 95 drivers for you PCI video card, if you pick another card's driver it could give you a scrambled image, then your in trouble. I would just buy another 8 meg PCI video card with drivers for Win 95 & 98 for less than $25-30. You will get a better picture than your old card, but you need to check you monitor to see if it can run at 800 x 600 with 70 hertz or higher refresh rate. Some of the old monitors only run at 60 hertz so check before you spend the money.

Good luck.
