If you're getting an error - thats important even if it is linux, the error could be hardware. What sort of message?
Normally you could wipe the drive and you're back to putting on a clean windows install. Are you having a problem loading graphics after you log in?

i don't like telling people how to go back to windows but if it's the only way!
What you need to do is if you are using a CD to install Linux, start there and when it asks you how you want to partition the drive set the values very low, and leave most of the drive empty don't even give it a partion!!
Once it has made the partions, then you should be able to restart the computer, boot from the windows CD and run 'fdisk' to create the windows partion, you will loose a few Mb's of space but I've found fdisk no good when dealing with linux partions.

To wipe the drive, download and run DelPart. Repartition the drive with a win98 startup floppy.

What happens later when Win98 locks up on you? Change back to Linux? Try fixing the problem instead of tossing the OS. You may learn something.
