cdrw not recognized

My computer does'nt recognize my cdrw anymore and it use to in My Computer folder as drive letter F,but not know. Why and how can I get this fixed? I tried to restart also checked cable connections also it does'nt even show in My Computer properties.I even tried a quick restore for my cd rom driver but that did'nt fix it. Any suggestions ?

Boot up with a win98 startup floppy. See if you can access it from Dos. If you can't, then the drive is probably dead.

I'm not sure how to tell if it's still in the Bios or not. I started it in safe mode and the philips cdrw showed up there in the My Computer/Device Manager.But when I restarted it wasn't there no more,Why? Also I tried to start it up with my floppy windows 98 start up disk but It said it could not find the Atapi IDE cd rom driver and could not load it,but it showed that it uses it. Iagain tried to check the cables and shut down power ,then pulled power plug, then pushed the start button to discharge it, then restarted and nothing again. Can you please help? Thank You

Still need more help please! Not only is my cdrw not being reconized but also I can't print anything,because my printer won't work.It says I have to reinstall it but I can't because my cdrw won't work. I tried to start in safe mode and it's there in device manager,cdrw and printer but when I start in regular it's not,WHY and HOW can I fix this? Thanks
