My CD-RW drive suddenly vanished. I have removed the device and reinstalled the drivers and have been able to make it recognized by the original burner software that came with the PC. Other programs, RealPlayer, Media Jukebox or any other burner I have tried don't see the drive. One of the error messages was No SCSI host adapter found. That went away after I restored the origninal software and CD-ROM. Your thoughts are appreciated.

I afraid I don't understand your post completely, but anyway ...
Each burner program must support the drive that you are trying to use. Windows doesn't handle this. If a burner program does not work with your drive, check for an update for that program.

I am stumped. I have removed the cdrw device and rebooted. I have updated drivers, and have uninstalled and reinstalled Realplayer. The RW dirve and the drivers appear to be loaded ok and are working. At least the burner works with the CeQuadrat origninal burner software. Realplayer and other burner software don't seem to recognize that a recordable drive exists at all.
Realplayer worked last week but know now does not. I have used the aspichk and it appears to come up with positive results that everything is working ok.
More suggestions welcome

If you have upgraded from win 98 to win 2k. your Cequadrat justburn software may not work especially for compaq coputers EZ series. you may get error like SCSI host adapter not found and recorder not found.
The answers is to download another CD burner software which is compatible with win 2k/xp and its free. No need to buy a new software. go to WWW.tinyurl.com/mddx, download it and delete the justburn sofware from your system.
good luck
