OK, how do I jumper my CD-RW 40 pin IDE ribbon cable to make it slave to my CD-ROM master. Do i plug the CD-RW ribbon cable into that black plug in the middle of my CD-ROM ribbon cable? Is that all there is to making it a slave, or to I have to adjust something in bios, or do something else too?

Look at the back of the drive for a jumper (it will be marked master, slave, CS (Cable Select). Move the jumper to slave. Dont worry about where it is on the IDE cable.

you jumper the CD r/w. Not the cable. there is a decal on the cd showing which two pins to jumper together to make it a slave.

i had to go into the bios to set my cdrw as master and cdrom as slave.it was recommended that the rw be master by more than one person on this site for buffer reasons.and dont forget to set the jumpers on the backs of the drives and (another recommendation from more experienced people at this site) its better torun both the cdrw and the cdrom on the secondary IDE
